Asclepias A. tuberosa Butterfly weed will bring in the butterflies. this perennial is a delight in my garden. Easy to grow with very little fuss. This plant grows along the roadsides here in Ga and anywhere it can get a tiny foothold. It will not get out of hand. Thrives in poor soil. | 'Milkweed (Butterfly)' | Seeds | (PlantFiles) |
Catulpa, Catawba, C. bignonioides For the angler, this tree will host Catawba Worms which are excellent fish bait. I planted mine along side the pond in front of my house. Great shade tree though heavy infestation of the worm will cause severe leaf loss and over many years of infestation can kill the tree. Many people grow these trees in an orchard. Who knew?! | 'Catulpa' | Seeds | (PlantFiles) |
Digitalis mixed This bi-annual plant has yielded me a kazillion seeds and they all want to germinate. My first year was a real eye opener. The seeds are very fine so I sprinkled them over a short broad container and within a few days there wasn't a speck of dirt to be seen. I used wooden skewers to tease them out for planting. I wanted to extract their medicinal components but they are also a lovely background plant. Mine grow well behind my hosta with very little light. | 'Foxglove' | Seeds | (PlantFiles) |
Ipomoea I.alba This vine is annual here in North GA but I gather seed each year for the fpollowing year as this is one of the easiest vines to grow. Fragrant and stunning as an early morning eye opener. As the sun rises the flower fads. Large capsuals with up to 4 seeds per. I grow my vine on one end of my Wood 'T' clothes line. | 'night blooming morning glory' | Seeds | (PlantFiles) |
Iris I. ayame this variety is Iris Ensata, dry land Iris. vigorous growth and stunning in clumps anywhere the sun shines. This plant is prolific and casts thousands of seeds though I rarely see an new plant from these. They will however germinate early spring under lights. Transplants are easiest and I have then in both seeds and transplants. | 'Iris ' | Seeds, Plants, Roots, Tubers and Bulbs | (PlantFiles) |
Lablab L. purpueus Love this annual vine. Every year I grow this vine over my chicken yard so that the chickens have a little respite from the hot sun of July and August. They love the young peas as I shell and toss to them and the tender leaves are hard to resist. They will eat them if they can reach them but this plant will pay them no mind as it reaches across the top some 15 feet. the first year I grew them on both sides and not one drop of sun could reach them. Now I plant one side with the accompaniment of luffa. The stunning yellow blooms from the luffa highlight the sweet purple blooms from the bean vine. Can't lose with this mix. | | Seeds | (PlantFiles) |
Luffa L. operculata Love this annual vine. It is sensitive, don't put it out too soon if you are starting your seed indoors. Wait for it...Planted with my Hyacinth bean vine it is a sight to behold. Its fruit is where the value is, who doesn't want to grow their own Luffa sponge for the bath? Very easy to grow. | 'Sponge Luffa' | Seeds | (PlantFiles) |
Phaseolus P. coccineus This was a first for me. So glad I was gifted with this hierloom bean seed. Lovely vine that I grow for hummingbirds and me. I love the long pods and collecting the seed has been a joy as well. Europeans grow this bean to eat and well they should, but I love to just watch them grow. | 'Scarlet Emporer' | Seeds | (PlantFiles) |
