What is this bird?

Can someone tell me what kind of bird this is? Actually I think he might be part cat, he loves the cat food.
Thank you.

I have an issue with baby robins falling out of the nest 3 years in a row now.
All WAY too early, barely have feathers- all within one or two days..Parents are distraught and loud..I bury the babys and then they fly off.....My dogs wont allow a cat in the yard, even our own kitty stays indoors, so it is not that, and the birds are always around the base of the tree.

The first dead one I saw this today had boxelderbugs chewing on it..it had a small hole in it....ewe...
My son informed me he found two other dead ones - no BE-bugs just flies.
I do not know exactly where nest is..2 maple trees are 80-90 years old and close together by the house.
Last year we did not have such an issue with the box elder terrorist, however I am beginning to wonder if they are to blame?

Could it be these bugs driving the babies out of the nest?
Is there a predator that would eat these nasty things?

Is there anything I could do for the Robins to help stop those losses
if it is not these boxelderbugs ?
Anyway... It has been three years in a row, every clutch ends up under the tree dead.

We have had very mild weather , no storms or wind gusts even.
Thanks for any suggestions!

First, I have to agree with threegardeners, Weegy. I'm surprised that you saw one. I didn't think they came this far south. Watch out for them getting into other birds nests, destroying the eggs currently in there, then laying their own. They are notorious for this, sadly. The nests rightful owners end up raising a baby Cowbird as their own.
Dedda, I suspect an avian predator is the cause of the baby robins early demise. Perhaps a nesting box built for robins might help avoid any problems in the future. Never heard of the bug you mentioned, but lots of them eat waste matter, and carrion.
Seen the same thing happen. Find them myself from time to time. It's always sad.
Any other DG'ers had similar experiences? If so, please post and help Dedda out.

More than likely attacks from other bird's who are also nesting in the area... Grackle's ,Jay's and Crow's will steal young and yes will eat them, unless there is plenty to eat otherwise, but I would think since being found below the nest with a hole in them suggest's a rival bird doing this. Ive seen many Robin fight's because an intruder landed on or near the nest. Grackle's will kill other smaller birds for no reason, Ive seen it happen.

I could be wrong about your situation, just trying to use the process of elimination to help you Dedda. Sooner or later you will find out the reason and if you do let us know.
