A friend took this picture of a flying bird at a nearby lake area and asked me to help identify. You guys are my best hope. What do you think it might be?

Boy, do I feel even dumber than usual. Yes, I did see the red wing bars. But I've photographed several red-wings, and the head and beak shape just didn't look right to me. I guess the dynamics of flight could account for it. Thanks for your expertise, as usual.
Yep, the head looks to be partly turned away, making the bill appear a bit shorter than one might expect.
