Journaling on DG

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Hi everyone...

I'm posting this on the two forums I frequent the most often, and where I know the most people.

Please tell me about the Journal part of DG. Is it hard to navigate? Easy? I've never used it, and I can't figure out how to get started. Do any of you use it for yourselves? What about the software systems for garden databases for your PC? I've always wanted to keep some sort of garden journal, but don't know where to start.

Thanks in advance for any help, opinions, and information.

I started a journal last year, I cannot remember the steps exactly.

There is an entire forum dedicated to the DG journal, if you have time to take a look there:
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/journals/all/

All I remember is that I created new journals by clicking "manage journals", and then created categories (which can be your choice, either corners of your garden, or specific types of plants, etc) and statuses (I don't know what were they supposed to be, but I labeled as statuses: seeds, plants in pots, etc...). And then started to add plants. The easiest way for me is to add them from PF (if they are there) by clicking "add this plant to your journal". When you do, it will ask you where (what journal - if you have more than one, category, and assign a status).

To me it was a mixture of "too flexible" and "too lax" in the same time. And I'm not great in keeping any kind of journal. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with it... if you want, take a walk in mine. Also, I can try to start a new one together with you, and communicate what I'm doing.
