Can anyone ID this critter

Beaumont, TX(Zone 9a)

This this shredded a canna leaf then folded a small piece over to hide in. There was another leaf chewed on with a folded section with nothing in it. I am thinking it eats by night then folds itself in a leaf to hide during the day.

Here is the leaf it was on.

It's a canna leaf roller. I've had them before. Not at all sure of the Latin name, but they WILL destroy your canna foilage.

They recommend a garlic insect repellant. I think Jerry Baker's formula has garlic, cayenne, soap and I dunno what else. My MIL used to mix her own and it worked VERY well.

I see a lot of the lesser leaf roller but I've never had a problem with this one before.

That is the larva of the Brazillian Skipper, a very cute little butterfly,

This is one of the pictures of the Brazilian Skipper in our Bug files. The spots appear inlaid. http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/showimage/4928/ Unfortunately they are ugly in the larval stage. I do love this quick flying skipper. Very little harm come to my cannas from them, but the Lesser Leaf rollers are another story.
