Baby Mocking birds leaving the nest

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

This is the second one I have found, I wasn't quick enough to catch a pic of the first one. The babys are on opposite ends of my yard so Mom and Dad are frantically flying around trying to keep everything clear of their babys.
Question... This is the second year I have had Mocking birds nest in my rose bush, Can I assume this is the same pair from last year or do they make a habit of using abandoned nests?

Hi Heaven, I don't you can tell the sexes apart.

Here is a piece from Birds of North America:

Some adults may spend the entire year as a pairon a single territory, while others establish distinct breeding and wintering territories.

It very well could be the pair from last year.

How long after mockingbirds leave the nest before they actually fly?

I have a pair who have built a nest & hatched 3 babies. The location these mates chose is a fern on my front porch - directly in front of a window. Late Thursday afternoon the babies left the nest. I watched from my door until after 7:30 p.m. and they were still bouncing around all over the yard trying to fly. Shortly after 7:30 all 3 had manuvered over into my neighbors yard and out of my sight. It's dark around 8:30 - I hope they all got off the ground by dark.
It was very intertaining to watch the adult birds flying from tree to tree and back onto the ground. Mom & dad tackled a couple of cardinals and flogged a squirrel until he ran for cover.
I just noticed the pair of mockingbirds back at my fern - I had gotten the nest out - they are rebuilding! I can't wait for the next babies to hatch & try their wings out!!
