Why I do not use trade tracker and don't like it

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

I will not use trade tracker for the main reason that it sends out d-mails that only say I sent your trade or I received your trade. No other information as to what is being sent or received. It's a pain in the butt to have to sift through bunches of emails like that. It was a great idea, but not very well thought out. I prefer keeping trades isolated to one thread .. not bunches.

By keeping trades isolated to one email, you know exactly what was sent, when it was sent and when it arrived.

Me too. Wouldn't it be great if Dave and crew found a piece to add to the dmail check if this is a trade and it went into the trade list or trades in coming and outgoing and a link to add whatever plants automatically?? I can envision what I want it to look like now if only I could find someone to make it.

you can edit the dmail trade tracker sends to personalize the message. The one trade tracker uses is only a template, you can add or remove any or all of the message if you wish. it's what I do :)

also, when you use the trade tracker to dmail, it will automatically keep track of the trades you have sent and/pr received. and when the trade is complete, you simply delete it from the list.

this is why I love TT.. because at any given time I can have as many as 15 trades going. hard to keep track of without my trade tracker :)

Just like Kelz I find the tool invaluable. Even though I just started trading! Maybe Dave and his staff could make it so the 'what you're supposed to send' and the 'what you're supposed to receive' shows up in the actual received and sent emails. And I love the idea of it being linked to the plants! Good ideas! But I don't think that we should be aggrevated at anyone who uses the trade tracker. Hope the website keeps improving! :)

I much prefer to have start to finish in 1 thread. I keep track of mine fine. That's one of the reasons I ask people to please put certain keywords in the subject line of d-mails for contact when I offer trades. Since we can make our own folders I have and it suits me fine. Having multiple d-mails for 1 trade just doesn't make sense. Especially when you're in the middle of bunches of trades.

If there was a way to put an identifier in the subject line it would be great.

ah, but you can! instead of having it say 'I received/sent your trade" you can edit the subject line to include the plant or seeds involved in the trade. So it says 'I recieved your (insert item here)!

As I said, Im always use it so that TT automatically keeps track of my trades for me. I can respect if someone doesnt like using it, but by no means will I limit my trades to those who do or do not use it. its a personal preference thing...lol

I use it as way to remind me of what I have lined up and when I am done with the trade I delete it. Makes it very easy for me..I like it!

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

The whole point is, i like to have just one thread for a whole trade, from start to finish. Trade tracker can't do that.

very true, but for people like me who can easily lose track of trades, what Im trading and who I am trading what too, its helpful. But I can see your point as well. less space taken in the inbox and so on.

I keep separate folders. Pending trades, Trades completed. When a trade has been arranged, it is moved from the in box to "pending".
When plants have been sent and received, it is moved to the completed folder.

I keep folders too. Pending, Potential, Completed....

I haven't used TT in a while, but if I recall correctly, you don't *have to* send the d-mail from the TT pages, you can send totally 'independent' d-mails.

That way, you're still keeping track of the trades, and using a single d-mail at the same time....right?

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

no, you dont have to use the TT dmail.. you can use the original thread if you wish.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Yeah...that's what I do Nan.

Orlando, FL(Zone 9b)

I don't ever send the trade tracker d-mails. I keep all my mail interactions in the same thread and just use the trade tracker almost like a reference list. If i am trying to remember who i sent a plant to i can scan the TT list to find the user name so i can find the d-mail easier.

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

I like keeping mine in the same thread. When I use trade tracker, I do click on sent or receive but when the dmail come up, I just save as draft and go back and clean out the folders later.

I think it would be cool to be able to stamp the date the trade was completed on trade tracker and also to be able to view sent already only or received already only or all trades not completed, etc...

The trade tracker does help me keep up with the trades.

I have never even taken a look at "Trade Tracker" until I read this thread!! Today i started trying it out and so far I love it!!! Much better than trying to keep track of papers and notes or notepads on my computer desktop! LOL! Of course, I have just started with it but it is still a lot better than looking to see where I put those darn papers!!!

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

That's why I like to use d-mail and confine 1 trade to 1 d-mail .. That way I can find everything I need in one place.

LOL, you are far more organized than I am, Xeramtheum!!! I cant keep track of my trades without a little help, LOL! If I try to write them down, I'll inevitably lose them. never fails.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Well you can't delete d-mails so you really can never lose them if you do it all by d-mails.

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

you can delete dmails.

Melfa, VA(Zone 8a)

I sometimes get 6+ different dmails from someone for the same trade. Then I have to go back and search for all of the dmails from that person and read through each one before I can figure what is what.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Estrail - If someone sends me another d-mail pertaining to a trade we are already working on, I always answer in the original d-mail. My system works beautifully, in fact today, I wanted to find the name of a hoya I had traded for 4 years ago and it took me less than 1 minute to find it since there was only 1 d-mail involved.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Lili, you actually can't delete emails .. when you hit the delete button, all it does in create a folder called Delete and moves the d-mails to the folder. If you delete the Delete folder, it moves all the d-mails from that folder into you inbox.

oh my goodness! What a tricky button. I thought it was a "new" feature. LOL!

Melfa, VA(Zone 8a)

Xeramtheum
I answer on the orig dmail too but I still have all of they others they have sent in a new dmail every time they send a message.

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

When that happens, I will copy any pertinent information into the original d-mail and explain to the person why I did it.

I've been trading here for years and the way I handle trades works really well for me. I always have no trouble finding specific trades.
