It seems healthy enough except for once in a while one of its older leaves does this and falls off. Any ideas what's causing it? He does it in either North or South lighting. I can't decide which he prefers...
H. calycina issue.
With those fuzzy leaves I'm wondering if hes like an African violet and doesn't like water droplets on them...
Have you checked out the plant for bugs? Maybe you water it a little bit to much. My plant liked a warm place. I grow it successfully in both east and west facing windows.
Mine is out in screened area getting full east sun and daily hard rain, so far it looks good but I might have to move it some time.
My experience is that H. calycina and a lot of other hoyas get sunburned leaf if they are getting to much sun. But then you can cut of the bit that is most sunburned. I do it all the time, because I´m lazy with cover up the windows with jalousie.
The photo of your leaf doesn't look like sunburn to me, but maybe a water problem as you have suggested.
I had the same problem with H. magnifica (another soft fuzzy leaf variety that I Love!) and posted a photo awhile back showing the leaf. I was so worried about losing my plant and I think my problem was not enough water for the magnifica. I received the cutting in the 2008 spring co-op last year and it rooted quickly but then came to a standstill. Then the few leaves it had began yellowing and dropping. I think someone said not to worry, it was normal? The plant is out on my pool deck and originally was in an east facing location. It has since been moved to the west side of the deck where it gets afternoon sun filtered from the screen, and since feeding with the beer formula fertilizer it has put on new growth and looks great ... no more yellow leaves! We have had an enormous amount of rain lately and this plant has been sitting right out in all the rain. I am going out to move it to a dry spot right now because it's stormy and raining again and I didn't even think about the fuzzy leaves (like AV's) not liking to have a lot of water on them!
I spray all my plants once or twice a day with water so I agree it can't be a water on the leaf issue. If you have it in a south-facing window, make sure its not actually in the window, so that it doesn't get direct sun on it, but does get the benefit of bright light. And I find that calycina's root ball doesn't like to dry out completely. I'll dig down with my finger about an inch, and if I can't feel wet at all, its time to water. Yes, I gave up on manicures years ago..lol.

Thanks everybody for the input!
One thing I do not have is an est window...I have him high and to the side of a South window so it's close. After reading Christine's post I believe I'm under-watering him. I'll start watering him more often than the rest of the gang.
