Well, the post went thru ok so maybe I can get a new thread started for the week. I admit it, I am exhausted today. And there is so much that I need to get done.
Holly came up with the skidsteer the other day & removed an large clump of weeds that I didn't realize spread by underground runners. That is why I haven't been able to get rid of them by spraying(too much root system to be killed off), pulling(just breaks off the top edge of the root system for each stem), etc. So we now have a large spot in which to plant. Of course there is the large daylily clump & the iris that were in there to replant. I think I'll use some of Sheila's greens to fill in the open area or maybe a couple winter squash until the Gill Over the Ground comes back in.
I think a nice dmail from each of us to Sue would help make her feel better. She is going thru a rough personal time right now. Keep her in your prayers, please. If anyone has her personal email and knows how to send those lovely ecards I think she would be so happy to recieve them.
Geraldine, you have the same name as one of my dearest friends. She is in eternity now but I sure do miss her. Welcome to this forum and thread. We are always glad to have new family members. Please be an active member.
Vic, I'm so thankful you are getting the rain you so desperately need. I understand drought. We went thru it for about 5 years here in the midwest. How I admire and envy your exercise reigm(?). Oh, to be able to do hard physical work without paying dearly for days as I did until the early '90s. Well, I guess I always have paid for doing too much in short bursts of energy/stamina that made other people declare I was a slavedriver & workaholic. Then I would have a collapse that lasted a few days to a couple weeks before I could get back to 'normal'.
Susan, how are you making it without 'Kota's help? Or do you just have things at home so down pat that you can make it on your own? How do you tell when she is having problems with steps? I have tried the 'blind' experience in groups and on my own for short periods of time and found it very challanging. I suppose one does learn to adapt over the years when you know it isn't just for a while. My hat is off to everyone who is so challanged in any way. We have a new woman at work who is very challanged in several ways and whether or not she will get to stay is debateable. My supervisor knew she was limited in abilities but not this bad. Tho she was told the woman 'might be able to fold clothes'. But as she says, "We aren't a babysitting service". There does seem to be one or two positions she does half way well with constant supervision but someone else has that position and is very reluctant to give it up tho she will share it if there is enough work to do. My supervisor has a hard job to do. Being a 'company' person I have more insight than some because I have made a point of seeing what I can do to help the store and my supervisor as much as possible. So many of the people there are volunteers as that is how the ministry works and so they don't have the insight about how the coffee, napkins, snacks, etc. get paid for. Until I came along my supervior paid it mostly out of her pocket unless some money was found in a pocket or purse that had been donated. That doesn't happen very often. Since we have had those items for a long time we have no way of knowing who the money belonged too. When an item comes in it just gets stored while we work our way tho bags of donated goods that have collected for days/weeks/months. Then they are sorted by season, occasion(formals, wedding dresses, etc.)and so on. When we finally get ready to put them on the floor they are sorted and sifted thro again & that is when the money is usually found. That money goes into a fund for building maintenance, etc. not the everyday expenses. Right now that fund is about to pay for the storage shed a company has been loaning us and has now decided they want to sell. All we are waiting on is the ministry board's approval of the purchase. Due to the large amount of donated items we really need that shed for overflow of what comes into the main building.
I'm going to get off here and do some housework. It has rained enough for the plants that need planting to make it another day and the house needs the work. I'll volunteer at the cafe' again tonight. Sheila's food stamps came in so she is hot to go food shopping. She has agreed to not spend them all at one time but has a one time list that will do just that if I don't watch her carefully. Last month we lost some food because we just didn't get it consumed on time. The 'fridge can only hold so much food and we can only eat so much.
I'm having trouble getting her to understand about the catagories of food and how they equate to weight control/loss. Since she is nearly bedfast with this feet issue she isn't burning many calories but she wants to eat as usual. Thankfully she does love salads and uses only vinegarette dressings. But she also loves fats and thinks that since she has always had good lipid levels she should be able to continue to eat them as usual. I can't get her to understand that fat can only be burned or stored and since she is so inactive for a while it will be stored. Cheeses are her big downfall. As is with the whole family. We love cheeses. Maybe I can get her to do exercises while lying down. I have all kinds of weights that I have gotten in hopes my arms will someday allow me to use them regularly.
GOD bless & keep each of you.
