Miscanthus Sinensis 'Gold Bar'...talk to me?

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Here's a site with a good pic of it http://www.soonerplantfarm.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/plants.plantDetail/plant_id/563/index.htm
Anyone know anything about this pretty? I'm fairly certain this is what I picked up from Meadows Farms last weekend - wanted something a bit taller but not huge (Debbie - remember talking to me about it?) in the middle of the previous Cactus Patch. Had contemplated on a few smaller agaves but they were pricey and/or not avail plus I was truly trying to stay away from plants w/the ability to puncture skin...LOL. Plus something maybe bright or variegated to break up all the darker sedums I fell in love with years ago...
Does anyone have this plant and have any suggestions?

How pretty is that!

I only have one miscanthus and it's huge, taller than me and maybe 3 feet around at the bottom. It needs dividing but I (seriously) need a chain saw to cut the roots apart.

I do love the striped ones. They're so pretty.

The tag that was in one of the pots (sadly not mine) read this one was suppose to be a smaller one...let's hope so...although I do like it so...guess I'll "live" with it if she gets a bit bigger then she should...LOL
Bec - you want me to pick you up one and bring tomorrow?

I'm sure it's much smaller, the link said it was dwarf. My advice is if it looks like it is getting pretty big, divide it before it gets huge. Then you won't be like me, standing there staring at this humongous thing, scratching your head and trying to figure out how on earth any human being can dig and divide it without heavy equipment.

One thing nice about them, they're pretty year round. Even after they die back in the winter, the seed sprays are pretty.

Whew....hope so...good advice, as always, Diane...I will attempt to force my brain to actual retain that info...ugh

Alas, no room :-(

the link said it was dwarf

Dwarf at 4'-5'! I guess you can consider it "dwarf" if you're comparing it to the taller 6' Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus'. Have 'Strictus' growing at the nursery house, 10 year old+ planting, and it's at least 7' tall! I haven't grown 'Gold Bar' - everything I've read says it's a slow grower but after 5 years it WILL have a 3' diameter. Hart's right, if you decide to move it, do it EARLY! I had to dig up a Miscanthus that was along the edge of the new Hosta border - took me hours and I wasn't trying to transplant it, I just wanted it out of there :( I have plans at some future date for an ornamental grass planting but I'm planning to give them a bed all to themselves, they just get too darned big!

Chantell...how big of an agave were you looking for? I have a small...they don't grow large...Agave schidgera variegata...but is quite small

I may have the 'Gold Bar', too.

estrail1rider - was looking for a compact variegated one to put in the center - unlike the baby monsters I cluelessly planted years ago that GREW and how!!! Trying to find one that stays within the 2-3' size preferably (but not essential) with an upright growth habit i.e. Variegated Color Guard (was suggested), Bright Edge, and I'd also found one called Yucca gloriosa 'Tiny Star'. How big does yours get and you have yours IN the ground i.e. it's hardy???

Nope not here it isn't
I planted several kinds last year to see what would make it through the winter here in Blacksburg. I want to plant across the Chesapeake Bay at our new house. I figured if they would live here they would do even a bit better there. Let me go out and take a look again at what make it. I know I had Ivory Tower, Color Guard and at least one more. One died, one did ok, the other died a bit but is coming back. It was a trial for me to just see.
