Noob Q, b/c I'm braindead: To cure or not to cure fresh cuts

Tuskegee, AL(Zone 8a)

I've done it a thousand times, but, after this winter's hiatus & long illness, the brain cells are not there. I'm just taking my first cuttings this year. Should I let them lie out one day to let the fresh cut dry before putting in water or put it straight in water to start rooting. These are semi-hard (greenish tan with prominent lenticels).

Which is best for avoiding rot starting from the fresh cut at the bottom?

Thank you in advance for the wise counsel.

I plant mine immediately.

Watertown, NY

When I take cuttings this time of year I just stick them right in the pot with the mother plant. Once I see signs of new growth i know they have rooted and take them up. The only plant I have not had this work with was Lemon meringue.
