We have two Barred Rock hens sitting on eggs. We marked on the calendar when they started sitting. Yesterday would have been 18 days for Pozzie. I went in the hen house to check on her last evening and heard peeping. It was loud peeping. I lifted her a little and there was an egg with a crack about 1/2 way around. A few minutes later the chick was out. Later I checked again and another egg had a hole in it. This morning she has two babies. I guess she had gotten the eggs warm enough days before she actually stayed on them. What a surprise, we weren't prepared, she is still in the hen house with the rest of the chickens. We need to get her into her own little pen with her babies now.

What a surprise, Poozies chicks hatched already.
Okay, here are the first pictures of momma and babies. She is Barred Rock but the babies are RIR.
This is Poozie and her babies. Poozie is a hen we hatched in the house under a light bulb after the momma hen she was sitting under hatched out her other babies and Poozie wasn't ready to hatch till 2 weeks later. Amazing that she hatched under a light bulb, but here she is a mommy hen now.
Here is another. We put food in for the momma and the babies came out and started eating too.

They are little fuzz balls. It is so cute when they pop their little yellow heads out of mommies black and white feathers.
