Hello,i have a goose that hatch yesterday and her neck grew crooked because she was in the egg to long.Well she can't walk because she can't hold her head up.So she crawl to get to the feed bowl and water.I was wanting to know is their anyway i can make a splint to hold her head up and maybe it will fix itself as she grows if she makes it.
Advice ((((((PLEASE))))))
I don't know--there are treatments with chicks that sometimes help. Large doses of Vitamin E with Selenium (you can get gel capsules of it at some drug stores--the Selenium is really important--not just plain Vitamin E). Some people also recommend massaging and stretching the chicks with crooked necks several times a day (you actually gently pull and massage til you feel a slight pop). This is because of a metabolic problem with some breeds, especially Silkies. I don't know if this works with geese. But it might be worth a try if nothing else works. You give a chick almost a whole capsule a day--so maybe twice that much with a gosling? For at least a week to 10 days.
Thanks you so much for your information Catscan.I have been massage her neck and stretching it a little and moving it side to side.I will try that.
I will post a few pictures of her in a few.

aww that poor little thing. I hope you can get the neck straightened out.
Thanks Smedgekles,i'm trying my best.I hatched her from a egg in the incubator and that is why i don't want to give up on her.
Oh poor baby.. that's too bad.
I know some chicks that get really big in the egg and come out fat already, it takes them days to get up and around very well.. Hopefully, your baby will gain strength.
Good luck!
Oh that poor baby. I hope you can help her.
Thanks ZZsBabiez.
Thanks Elleisn,i'm trying my best to help her.I won't give up.
I wish I could give you some useful advise, but I just don't know. Try calling a vet. That's just so sad. I hope someone can help.
When I was a girl, I had a duck. She got her beak stuck in the fence. As she pulled herself loose, she broke her jaw. I picked her up, and my Dad drove us to the vet. The vet told us, her jaw was broken, and the only thing that could heal her was to tape her beak shut, so it could heal. But if he did that, she wouldn't be able to eat or drink, and would die. He said he would have to put her to sleep. I picked her up, said you're not going to put My duck to sleep, and carried her out of the office, with her poor little jaw hanging down. I took her home, taped up her beak, but left 1/2 inch space. Then I made up watery cream of wheat, and fed it to her with a straw everyday. After a couple weeks her jaw started moving again, and I took off the tape, and she was just fine.
Maybe you could fashion her a splint out of a toliet paper roll, cut down to fit her. Tape some guaze on both ends, so it doesn't cut into her skin. Good luck with her, don't give up, as long as she doesn't seem to be suffering.
Thanks Elleisn, that is a good ideal too.I work with her everyday.I lay her body in the palm of my hand and then i let her legs down on each side of my hand and i massage her neck and rubber it.I woke up this morning and the little angel was standing up walking.I am trying to get her to get her strenght in her legs and her neck.Yes,i will also try the toliet paper roll, cut it down enough for her head to stick out where she can eat and drink. She would be ok if i can strenghten her neck to hold her head up.
So thanks everyone who is trying to help me.

Awww, the poor dear! I hope that little gosling recovers. You're very sweet to care for her like this.

She's eating and growing? Great!
Yes,she eats and is growing like a weed.
I don't know if you ever watch South Park. Especially when they had the show about the disabled kid, and the turkey with the crooked neck. When your told your story, it really reminded me of that episode, lol. His name was "Gobbles", and couldn't pick his head up, but was much loved.
LOL!!!!I use to watch south park.I didn't see that episode.
