Chicks are now 6+weeks old. Got some head shots to show y'all. Some of their feather patterns are really pretty. Here's Johnny5/Emo.
Head shots
Those are Rose combs! I'm not sure about how rose combs look close up very young..
Is Johnny a BLRW pullet???
Is Link a Blue Laced Wyandotte Pullet??
Pern is still Roo through and through.. LOL
Is Joey a blue Wyandotte Roo?
Is Matilda trying to be a Columbian Wyandotte Roo?
Wyandottes have rose combs... Aren't you the one that bought BLRWyandotte eggs?? Or Wyandotte cross??? My memory is shot.. I get taken up with all the "goinz on" here with the hatches, and get mixed up? I'm sorry..
Hi ZZ, yeah I'm the one who bought BLRW eggs on ebay. Probably Wyandotte cross. Don't be sorry about not remembering. I can't remember who I'm supposed to be some days. Possibly 2 pullets is great. Johnny is acting more pulletish. I keep hoping Matilda will be a pullet, but I guess not. I've been trying to find pics of rose combs on Wyandottes at an early age, but keep getting pics of Rosecomb Bantams. Adults or infants, no tweens. The wonders of the internet. I guess people don't take many pics of the in between stages of chickens. (Except us DGers.)
Yeah, I tried to find pics of lavender chicks.. didn't find any till I saw them on eggbid!
I think it's important to have pics of developing combs, it's always a question someone has.. I guess you are right about us.. LOL
Becky! You have some very pretty birds. Is this your first time for chickens? I'm somewhat like ZZ's, I forget some things and get caught up in others. It 's nice that DH is working with you on your adventure. I wish you great success and thanks for sharing the pic's with us. Haystack
I bet if Silkiechick gets a chance to come on, she could tell you for sure if they are roos or pullets..
They sure are pretty, and getting better lookin all the time!
Hi Haystack, Yes this is my first time with chickens. I bought a bator for an anniversary gift to myself and bid on eggs from ebay. It sure is an adventure. They grow so fast and need new housing every couple weeks it seems. The coop should hold at least 6 adults, so I can get more hens. I'll be rehoming all but one rooster (and maybe him, too, if the neighbors get feisty.) The coop is delayed a day or so, since I broke the kitchen faucet last night. DH does all the repairs around the house as well as carpentry. And the coop is delaying my kitchen cabinets. If it isn't one thing, its another. Oh well...
ZZ - they are outside today enjoying bugs and grass. DS keeps finding logs with bugs and ants for them. Pern is going to be his rooster. 7 weeks old today.
She's very pretty, do you know what breed of chicken she is?
She's a White Plymoth Rock.
I had normal Plymoth Rock and never saw any aggression. These white chickens pick and choose their friends and are mean to the others. Like territorial.
The roosters of both breeds were aggressive. The Normal one was locked up cause I thought he would hurt someone. We called him Killer. The white rooster was only aggressive towards me. He got sold quickly.
Next time I get chickens I'm gonna read up on their state of agression. Which one's are the nicest. I just hate all this pecking and territory stuff.
We have barred rocks and a couple of them are quite mean to the meeker buff orpingtons.
