My Philodendron Has Tears (Pink Princess - Arum Araceae)

Sterling, VA(Zone 7a)

My philodendron (Pink Princess) seems to be shedding tears. There is no condensation from above. Does anyone know what causes this? I started this thread from the link below, and was adivsed (Thank You!!) that this was a better forum for this question. Snug, :o)

Snug,

This phenomenon is most frequently seen in the morning; it is called guttation and can be thought of as releasing of internal water pressure by letting some of the water out. The water exits through specialized structures called hydathodes. Most often it is seen on the leaf tips, but can occur around the margin of the leaf as well.

Thank you LariAnn. That is really fascinating. My son watered this plant for me when I was away and he accidently overwatered it--perhaps he unknowingly induced this phenomenon to manifest itself by releasing excess moisture/water from the leaves. Snug, :o)

On some plants it can be a sign that you are over watering it. Be careful with yours, most people lose theirs from just that.

About five minutes ago, I posted a thread communicating how this Philodendron does not like to be overwatered--must be ESP!! In any event, so far I've been lucky.

This is a recent pic, and it appears that the plant so far is happy -- since it is not crying!! LOL Snug, :o)
