Your best bird spots?

North Augusta, ON

What are yours? Your yard? Do you walk around the neighborhood? Do you drive to somewhere and walk from there? what is your best spot?

Marlton, NJ

Cape May and Stone Harbor are my favorites. Both in New Jersey but they are 1 1/2 - 2 hour drive from me.

I plan on going to some new places soon that aren't quite that far away.

Moorestown, NJ(Zone 6b)

Threegardners, most of my birdwatching is in my own back yard. There is something special about knowing that the bird came to visit you. A few weeks ago, a Blue Grosbeak showed up for a quick meal (quite rare this far up north). That one visit alone made a year's worth of filling up birdfeeders worth it. On the other hand, you can see different birds and observe them in a more natural habitat when you head to wildlife areas. I try to plan a distant trip once or twice a year and local trips every month or two.

Pelletory, Burlington County just opened up Boundary Creek along the Rancocas in Moorestown. You should consider paying it a visit. http://www.co.burlington.nj.us/departments/resource_conservation/parks/sites/future/boundary/index.htm

And while you are in the area, the old standbys always deliver... Rancocas Nature Center, Amico Island, and Palmyra Cove.

Hi Trinch, I love Rancocas and Palmyra. I also go to Woodford Cedar Run in Medford. Where is this place in Moorestown? LOL, I need some landmarks. You can D mail me.

Thanks, Pelle

I agree with Trinch. The birds have to come to me! What I do is more like "Bird-waiting".....pretty neat to be sitting in your own backyard and see a Bald Eagle fly over.

Hi GP, I don't think that is what Trinch was saying .

You're (GP) lucky to live in a great area for birds and can see many from your backyard.

I do agree that it's a great privilege and very exciting when new birds come into our backyard!

That being said over half of my list has been gotten down the shore. Besides loving the shore area where I lived for many years I also have family down there so it has another draw for me.

Sandusky, OH

Backyards are good anytime, I often take time to listen for that call or song that is not normally in my yard and grab the camera lol . I have 3 places i travel to frequently since there not too far away. Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge "known for its Warblers", Old Woman Creek National Estuarine "known for its Bald Eagles" and Sheldon's Marsh State Reserve "known for the migration watch". These places have more birds than what their known for also with some odd visitors stopping by here along Lake Erie.
