This is one I am looking to add to my collection. Has anyone seen it. I do not have a pic yet because I am trying to decide do I want to spend the $25.00 for a 4" pot. It is a rare gardenia with a sweet scent durng the day and gets more intense at night, It is a year round bloomer and the flowers look like they are dying. The good thing is that is has a disease resistant root system and few problems with insect pests compared to other gardenias.
Need to check DGs info on plants to see if they have it listed.
Would love to hear from anyone who has one of these lovelies. JB
Gardenia nitida
You are right, JB, in my Logees catalog, those blooms certainly look 'relaxed'!! But not unlike some Jasmines....(maybe that will help) If I had room I'd go for it.
I had a $100 gift certificate with Logee from my kids and I have been looking at it for weeks. I called this morning and put my order in. It was among it. I bought all gardenias and I have no idea why. That is the one plant I have no luck propagating. Maybe I will get lucky.
The girl at logees said it is really a great plant. So, we will see. Must go transplant some Kleims Hardy Gardenias now. I wonder if they are the same as the Hardy Gardenia Logees has for sale. I did manage to save three of these cuttings from the Kleims but it was a really old plant and they are tiny even after a year. I am going to put them in bigger pots and give them some feed and see if I can make them move along faster. JB
Way to go girl!!! I'm excited for you with the order!! now, keep us posted!
I DID have that Gardenia on my wish list...but then I think better. I hate to invest money in something that has a history of dying once inside. So excited for you though. That's MY kinda gift certificate!!!
How large are your Kleims Hardy and do you have them outside?
Chantell, I just put two of the Kleims in to the 8 inch pots. They had nice roots but were not potbound, so I think they needed fresh soil and some food, which is in the soil. I will give them an extra shot in a week or so. I have two more smaller ones. That is all I could save from my stock plant before it died. I was so angry. Anyhow, they are on the East Deck and seem to like it there. If I remember they did not do well with too much sun. I can not remember. JB
Hmmm maybe THAT was the issue...too much sun....although she was still alive at Summer's end....
