The duck was seen during our skiing trip this afternoon. As our boat drifted closer, it dives and stays under the water for a few mins -- at least. I can't be sure it was trying to elude us, or was busy diving for a meal. Very pretty, but shy? Please help I.D.
CLOSED: First time seen in our locale.
That's a Loon!! a Common Loon. Very nice!

Thank you 3gardeners. I'm delighted, an unexpected occurence. A delightful find nevertheless.
wow Kim I have them here all winter but never get to see them in their breeding plumage
Wow, they're now in their breeding season? Donna, I wished to go back there today, but may have to wait until this weekend to make the trip. Hubby is sore from skiing, and we're sorta busy. But I myself, I can't wait to return there to hopefully get more pictures.
I hope you get to hear their call...so haunting!!
Yes, I get to listened to it via the National Geographic website last evening over supper. lol. It wasn't the exact embien for a romantic, candle lit dinner with hubby is for sure. lol. BTW, we didn't have lit candles anyway. But supper was good. :-)
