Can Smaller Shrubs do Well in Containers??

I have a couple of shrubs i just love.
and want to grow at least one in a container because we hope to move in the next two years and I dont want to lose a plants trying to uproot and replant to a container once it gets used to the ground.

Can the average 3' X 3' shrub do well in a container??
