This guy showed up last week and stayed all week. Does anyone have any clue what he is? He sure enjoyed the nectar!

Hi bryan, It's an immature Red-bellied Woodpecker

Marlton, NJ

They are a wonderful bird. I have 3 adult pairs here so I'm looking forward to seeing the juveniles. Here is a page on them.

Bryan.. I have woodpeckers and orioles that go after my hummer feeders too. I found that if you put a shallow bowl or sugar water out near the feeder they will go for that instead. I got tired of re-filling my feeders from them tipping it and the hummingbirds were tired of waiting for them to leave...lol

Ya"ll are terrific! I just started "watching" about a year or so ago and am having great fun. That website is just great! My family is getting a little tired of bird calls though! LOL

Doesn't the sugar water give you lots of ants?

I put shortening around the outside of the bowl .... or if I can I put a small bowl inside a larger bowl with plain water in it. Ants won't cross water.
I listen to bird calls on my computer... drives my cat nuts...lol
