Since brugs need a fair amount of water I was thinking of planting one on the edge of a lagoon. I'm wondering how wet is to wet for these guys??? I can plant it right in the water like a canna but I don't think that will work and then as I move up the bank the it's gets drier and drier.
Water tolerant????
Brugs need a lot of water, but they also need excellent drainage too. Root rot and overwatering are probably the biggest killers of Brugs. I hope this answers your questions.
That would answer my question. My soil has a fair amount of sand in it but it does rain a lot here also. What happens to brugs in my area is they tend to wilt in the afternoon during the summer and start to become a pain in the neck for me. I have a bunch that I grew from seed so I'm trying to figure out the best spot that would be the lowest maintenance but high flower production. Edge of the water would be great sun wise if they didn't get root rot.
Mine will wilt if they get too much sun and the temperatures rise above 90+. How much sun do your Brugs get? Afternoon sun may be too much for the brugs. Have you tried providing some shade at that time of day?
I think I have the oppsoite problem, not enough sun. I have a few from last year and they haven't done that well. No afternoon sun at all. Last year was really dry for us and I had problems with water even where my irrigation system is let alone where I don't have irrigation. Everything is growing much better this year, now it's a matter of finding the best spots to grow this and that. That's one of the reasons I fool with seeds and cuttings, cheap way way to play with odd or expensive plants.
