OK, so we were scootering last week, and came across a man selling rooted Aztec Golds for $10-$15. So, not knowing much about care of these, it (probably the first plumie ever to receive a scooter ride!) got it home & replanted into a new pot.
So, in one week, I now have three more and three others on the way.
I joined DG today to learn about these beautiful plants!
My questions:
1. Did I stake this right?
2. How quickly do these grow? I'm in 9B Cocoa FL
Plumie Noob with first question!
Aha, another addict :-)
You staked that fine. If it's rooted it will quickly fill that pot with roots and won't need staking anymore. Did it not have any leaves?
Aztec Gold will grow fine for you, if you ever get any frost you will need to protect it though. They cannot take anything under 32 degrees for any length of time.
This is a pretty lanky variety and in a few years you will have a small tree. They branch when they bloom, so don't go pruning it too soon!!
Good luck.
Right - I suspected they may not have been rooted from the look of them, but in your first post you said 'rooted'.
The 'damp' look of the tips actually is the beginning stages of the plant coming out of dormancy and starting to make leaves.
Put your unrooted cuttings in the warmest spot in your yard, full sun is fine, and do not water it unless it gets very dry. Heat and light will make it root.
