Are any of you seeing more bugs this year?
I'm over run with leaf hoppers and aphids, the worst I've ever seen.

More Bugs this Year?
I sent my leaf hoppers to you. Last year they were terrible. The ducks couldn't keep up
wit em.

More mosquitos this year. They are out in droves.
Lots of bugs. The mosquitos are terrible. I keep a loose journal about the different seasons. Seems every year I write that the black flies, mosquitos or deer flies are the worst ever.
I guess we forget. I don't remember ever breathing mosquitos though. I have had a couple up my nose this year. Yech! They are thick!!!
Hmmm. We had a fairly long cool spring last year as well as this. Last summer we had fewer bugs and I thought maybe this year it would be likewise. Still, we're probably going to get some ladybugs for the aphids on the roses.
When the weather gets hot around this old house we usually get flies hatching like crazy. This year we got a venus flytrap and the very first fly in the house this season is currently being digested!
It's been so darn cold around here that I haven't seen many bugs at all! Are we skipping summer this year?
Sarv I'm not that far from you and we are smothered in skeeters! I can hardly work outside. But I am close to the Grand River, and everyone around us has ponds....and of course this was the year for the flood here.
AuGres has been doing arial spraying for mosquitos for a couple years now and what a difference it's made. We hardly ever see a mosquito now and the overall bug problem is much better. We spray all our fruit trees regularily and with the leftover spray we spray the ornmental trees in my yard and my roses. It's made a big difference. We don't get the aphids or the wooly aphids and everything is nice and healthy.
I did notice the bumble bees this year are HUGE. They fly so slow. It's a wonder they can get off the ground they're so fat. I'm not sure why. We should have a bumper crop of apples this year.
Same here Paul.
So much for hard winters killing stuff off.
I'v got aphids Huge bumble bees and chipmunks !!!!

Hi! I've seen bug issues much worse this year than previous years. Thrips really did a number on my honeysuckle this year, and the four-lined plant bug has just about destroyed some of my plants. I was keeping an eye out for it early, but it seems like overnight it started damaging my plants significantly. Any one else dealing with this nasty bug this year?
I don't know if it is more or less as it is my first year watching plants but the aphids I have a lot of. Slugs I have never seen till I planted stuff this year and am overrun by them.
Mosquitos are way more then I ever remember. I mean way more. I had to resort to a friend that sells outdoor equipment out in Utah to ship me a case of 100% Deet. I went through everything on the market and this 100% deet is the only thing that has worked so far. I don't think it is good for you though as the warning label is brutal and straight forward. The last line says "get it off of you the minute you come indoors".
I'm looking on the web now to see how to build proper bat house's. I believe they eat 700 mosquitoes an hour. Couple things I haven't seen this year like I use to is june bugs in numbers and have not seen a ladybug to date or those asian beetles that look like ladybugs.
This is a funny year for sure. All around.
Joel.
