Another lily opened this morning!
It's gorgeous! Congrats on your bloom! :)
Froukje
If I recall, she's Queen of the whites, she opens very early and closes a lot later than Colorado does, holds her head high out of the water, first bloom for her.
Thanks for looking.
Don
Don, I was also extremely excited when mine bloomed for the first time! My Tina has been blooming non-stop ever since! I am so happy with her!

How often are you feeding her?
I use the lilypond tabs, once a month, just been putting one tab, even tho it calls for 3 per pot, don't want my pond to go green with algae.
Don- so far I'm not feeding her at all. She's a new plant and I was considering buying some mini waterlily stakes soon, the ones you stick in the mud near the plant. I have no experience fertilizing ANYTHING, since I am a newbie! How's the tabs working out for you?
So far so good,I'm just about out of them,so yesterday while I was at Ace Hardware,I bought some mini Jobe flowering stakes,18 of them for 3 bucks, thought I'd give them a try. Also bought the tomato jobe stakes as well, both had a high middle number,I think it was 12-15-10. I know some people by the jobes citrus tree stakes and use them, but they were out of them,so I thought I just try these 2 kinds.
I also use them on my Lotus plants.
Is that what causes Algea? Plant food? I but 2 caplets to every pot. My pond is green and I've tried everything to clear it, and nothing helps. I thought my filter was too small. I guess I'm FEEDING algea instead of killing it! By the way, what I came here for, What zone are you in for your water lilies to be blooming already?
Mekos, I'm in zone 9, and according to Don's blurb, he's in zone 6a. But different lilies will bloom at later or earlier times!
Hey flower, I've been having the worst time this year with algea. I had some last year, but not as bad as this year. I've asked in several forums how to fix it, everyone said my filter, use barely pads, use microb-lift- all Ive done and greener than ever and some brown leaves on the lotus pads from the microb-lift and a couple dead fish. He just said adding plant tablets (3 ) per pot would turn the water green, so he just put one. That must be my problem. I put 2 large caplets to each pot and put a bunch of pots in each pond. I guess if I don't put the plant food tablets in for a while, it might get better. I guess I'll see.
Yes, that might be it. Also, I heard there are stakes that you can put into the soil of a pot of a waterplant that don't leak into the water as much. Currently, my tadpoles are making short work of any algea around! :) Aren't there any algea eating fish? I always think the natural solutions are the best!
My tadpoles must be too fat to show or on a diet and that's why I got so much.
Hahahaha! You're funny!
Rule to remember,60% plant coverage over the pond will help keep the water clear!
I don't even have a pump or filter in mine, and water is pretty clear.
Thanks, I'm trying to get them covered. That is the reason for adding more pots and plant food. It is looking a little better, or maybe my wishful thinking.
2 yrs ago I put 3 tadpole in my pond,as of today I have one big and to small frogs, but no tadpoles, only 2 koi left in the pond as well, think I have a coon in the neighbor hood!
I had 30+ koi 2 years ago but something got all but 1 large male. So now I just have 1 big male and several different gold fish. For 2 years now I bring them into the green house for winter so nothing eats them. I put them in a bath tub with claw foot in there. But this year someone wanted my claw foot bath tub so I guess they will have to fend for themselves this winter out in the pond.I think they are big enough now to stay from the hunters. I use to buy those algea eaters to put in the pond and that thing got huge and I haerd they will eat the fish when the fish sleeps so that could have been the culprit or snakes or coons. We had em all.
I'm going to a pet store here in a few minutes and see if they got there snails in yet.
I always put a few in each year, but they never make it thru the winter, but they eat the green algae on the sides of the pond liner.
What kind of snail? I have snails that eat my plants.
Mystery and apple
And a pretty one too!
Thanks.
OH, How pretty! You rock. Those are very pretty. Hope I get some like that this year. I have several colors now, just waiting for the blooms to begin. WOW!
Gorgeous!!!!
What is the name of the one with pink on the pads? That is so unusual.
Plan to go into the pond tomorrow. I will see if I can find the tag.
gorgeous lillys
Oh, your are so lucky to be in a climate so they open sooner. I'm jealous. And what beautiful colors.
Beautiful!
ATB, How many nights does it re-open?
I was thinking about getting a tropical night bloomer.
Nice shot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It doesn't get much better than that, does it?
What is funny is that both the tropical ones opened and the yellow hardy one hasn't put up any flowers yet. Do they take longer or something?
I have two different lotus putting up buds now too-yeah!
I don't know, my hardy is blooming now and the tropical had blooms coming up but hasn't come to the top yet.
beahive, I simply *must* have one of those pink pad ones!
If you have any to spare for trade or postage, or if you find the name of it, please let me know!
I also liked the pic of the reflection one, that was really nice.
