Bluebird advice needed

Starkville, MS

Help. I wrote earlier complaining that the male blue bird kept attacking me when I tried to look in the box. In all my 20 years of monitoring the box this has never happened. So, I just left it alone and 5 little babies fledged. And, a short time later a new nest was built, and 5 more eggs appeared. The male seemed just as irritated with me------------so I left it alone again--------till now. I have not seen the birds in 3 days---------------and the nest is undisturbed. I know for sure that the eggs have all been there since last Friday (29th)---4 days ago. At one point do I give up on their returning??? How many days?

Thank you,

I have read that you can take a blade of grass and put it in the hole of the box just to make sure that no one is going in there. I am not sure how many days before the eggs are no longer viable...someone with more experience will come along soon. Good luck...

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that they are OK.....

Hooray! They are back------guess they just needed a little vacation before the setting started.
