Does anyone know where I can find pennyroyal, the plant or the seeds? It's supposed to act as a natural bee repellent, and I'd like to try it as such in the never-ending battle against yellowjackets.
looking for pennyroyal
I grew it a few years back.It is a perennial, but not hardy in my area.I don't remember where I bought the seeds. However thymegarden.com carrys the seed for $1.95.It might be where I bought it.They are a great company to deal with, very fast shipping.Edge
For what it is worth...I grew it years ago and couldn't control it. I am still finding shoots all over the garden area. So, please be sure you really, really want it OR keep it in a container. Susan
I have a plant in ground in this zone that is struggling from heat/drought/humidity ~ who knows. It has not been as prolific as Susans'. Found mine as a potted plant in a garden center a bit later in summer.
Pennyroyal is used as a natural flea repellent, however it is a mint and as such attracts a wide variety of beneficial insects including bees. Once it is established it is hard to eradicate ( not necessarily a bad thing). We had it planted around the dog pen and when the dogs walked through it they smelled good too. Seriously several years ago in NC we had a terrible time with fleas and the plantings made all the difference in the world- No it didn't make much difference with ticks!
I would buy plants not seeds, since they are variable.
