Babies are hatching. Pics of the new ones.

Conroe, TX

We have 3 Silkies sitting on eggs and 2 Barred Rocks sitting on eggs. One of the Silkies eggs hatched yesterday. In the morning there was nothing, not a pip and in the evening there were two babies. Another Silkie is due to have hers hatch today or tomorrow.

These are not Silkie babies as we don't have a Silkie roo. These were full size eggs we put under her when she got broody. Not sure what they are but one of these hatched from one of our Americana eggs.

I love those baby pic's, they never get booring. DANG I don't know how you women do it? They never sit still in my hand like that. What's up with that picture?

Thanks for sharing they are darling. OH I just wanted to say if it's alright. The Wash State Dept of Agri sent me a letter requesting that I submit two pic's of my birds for the State Poultry Calendar. They put your name and town on it with the Pic. I am sending one Pic of my snowhite Ameraucana, and one pic of my new blue copper Marans. Hay

Love, Love, Love them!
Hey, we can go this together; my BO's eggs starting hatching today too! So far I've been able to spot 3 babies.but I got a good pecking from her to get them to come out!

Congrats, Haystack! If they get picked, you have to tell us how to get a calendar. :-)

Okay ZZ tell me how you know the second picture is a roo. I'm curious.

Sandy, hope all the babies hatch healthy. We have a momma that is like that too, pecks pecks pecks, very protective. This momma is a good one, she complains and ruffles up her neck fuzz but she doesn't peck.

Congrats Haystack.

It's just a guess... but you see how the comb is not just a straight row of single bumps? It has tiny bumps on the sides? One straight row is a pullet..

I'm only guessing.. it's near impossible this early.. it's all in fun. :) Time will tell!

I was wrong with some of my Ameraucanas.. a lil baldy lookin one that I was sure was a pullet is getting a pink comb..

Interesting, I never knew that, one row of bumps vs more bumps. Now I have to go look at all our Ameraucana chicks that hatched and see what they have We have some that are a couple months old and have been thinking some look more henish. I'm going to see if their combs have one row of bumps or more.
Though it was an Ameraucana egg the father we think was probably the Golden Phoenix roo because it has black legs not green and the only roo we have with black legs is the Golden Phoenix, so that could spice things up a bit.
We haven't had any Ameraucana eggs hatch dark like that. They have all been lighter in color, this is the first one to hatch out so dark. Our Ameraucanas are in the pen with the GP roo but there is also a mix, barred rock/RIR roo in there too but his legs are yellow.

Too cute! Momma looks soft enough to hug!

She is soft enough to hug. I love to hold our little Silkie hens because they are so soft and sweet. It is really cute when the little ones get up under her and then stick their little heads through her wing feather fuzz . Just adorable.
