CLOSED: would you trade with a non subscribed member

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

would you all trade with a non subscribed member . i start a trade not realizing they were just signed up . they have good feedback . ill continue with the trade but for future reference i wanted to know if it matters . i see alot of offers that are for paid members only and was wondering what the consensus was .

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I have before and would again - even a few with no feedback.

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

I was a non member for a while.I just didn't have the extra money at the time to join, and didn't want to waste it if I wasn't sure I'd like it.as you can see I am now a member.......LOL guess I liked it.But I think you can be a good or bad traded either way.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

I have and one of my dearest Angel friends is froggies_girl. I love her so much. So happy I did trade.

Athens, PA

I think a non paying member's plants to trade are just as good as a paying members plants..... why limit yourself - especially if the non paying member really has something I want......^_^

NO problem here. Plants are plants to me. Just happy to get them.

Fredericksburg, TX(Zone 8a)

People traded with my when I was a non-member. That is what made me want to join. Everyone is so nice and helpful!! I just finished a trade with a non-member - very happy! ; )

some poeple just dont have the extra cash to pay for a subscription. I dont think being a non paid member should make a difference when trading. After all, we were all 'non payers' at one time or another :)

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

I would absolutely trade with a non-paying member if they had a plant I 'needed' - I've done it many times - I don't even check to see if a trader is a paying member - never crossed my mind!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

I don't check it out either. I just trade make friends and be happy there are such nice people on this site. BEV

Amen to that! well said

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

i wonder why so many offers say paid members only. i never thought about it till now

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

I don't think I have ever seen that HUH!!

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

just about all coops say that . ive seen a few other things that say subscriber only . i cant recall what they were i was just wondering if that was a general feeling and if there was a reason for it . i guess the things i saw were free or for postage . trading is different .

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Subscriber's only shows up a lot in ongoing swaps that take a year or more to complete (quilting BOM swaps, dishtowels, potholders, aprons ) and also in round robin swaps where a box of seeds or gadgets travels from one member to another. I think it is because they want the sense of commitment.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

I've seen it on a co-op, and that I can understand. To be a paid member to take advantage of certain savings during a co-op, but just a general trade between members? I see no reason NOT to trade with a non paying member if its just a private trade between 2 peeps.

(Tammie) Odessa, TX(Zone 7b)

Only paid members have access to some of the forums such as the co-op forum. So they can not fully participate.. they can only read the first post. I think that is how it works.. I have always been a paid member but my membership comes up in July and I may not be able to afford it... then what happens.. everyone stops being my friends and trade buddies???? LOL I have never even taken the time to look if someone is a paid member or not.

i would and do all the time. i trade on daves and on gw. every now and again you get a bad trader but that's just life. most of the time it's all good.

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

ok i guess its not an issue then . lol

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

It is up to the individual. I did get to where it bothered me for non subscriber's to always ask for plants just for postage, Now I explain to them or I have it on my trade list now I am disabled and just can't unless it is a special trade or a RU.

It is such hard work to do just postage. But with DG members it depends on my back if I can get it done. You can reserve the right to do it or not.

LhasaLover you have so many friends here you never have to worry with me.

Blessings,

that's how I got started. i was a non-member and someone contacted me for a trade. However, there is a seed trade going on that a non-subscriber is not keepin up her end.

I've been burned 3 times by subscribers, so it doesn't make a difference. I check their feedback and if they have more than 2 negative feedback, I send their trade AFTER I receive mine.

I got my daughter to start a bit on here and then paid for her a 2 month subscription just to make sure she would keep going with it and maintained her interest. I have since paid for her 1 yr. She really can't afford it and I think the thing she really enjoys is adding plants and bug photo to files and help getting things identified even though she is quite good at it herself being raised by 2 biologists. She is mostly doing seeds right now because she can't do the postage. but at least she is trying, doing a good job, gives her something to do. She is 22, married, has a baby, and just starting out.
I don't look to see.
