P. nephrodes

Dover, NJ

Hello everyone,

My P. nephrodes vine put out an explosion of blooms Saturday morning--I counted at least 35. They really like hide behind the leaves. I used a piece of cardboard to shade this one so I could get a pic.

Here's a pic showing the fuzzy leaves:

Mark,
When I saw this I just had to go look it up. It's gorgeous. I had to laugh at your comment regarding the Gulf Frit's. My Lady Margaret kinda looks like "Swiss Cheese Margaret" right now, even tho I'm moving a lot of the Gulf Frit. cats to other passi's they sure do seem to prefer this one. And I was so worried last fall that if I did't have a maypop I wouldn't have the right passi for them! I love that pink one tho...may have to go on the hunt for it too...sooooooo many plants............soooooooooo little time........

Have you smelled the cottoncandy scent? It comes at dawn so I only smelled it only once. I had nephrodes for several years. It is very easy to make cuttings.

Mark,
Do you think it would handle Central Florida summers?

Flicker, I have not smelled any scent on it, but my sense of smell isn't that great. It does root very easily.

MJ, Yes, it can handle the heat, but would probably appreciate some afternoon shade to keep it out of the really intense sun.

You two are torturing me............

Oh yes. I am in Covington, La.-8b. My vine was in the bald sun on a large trellis. It did well if we had regular rain. I had to water sometimes.

Ya'll are all killing me with all these beautiful pictures of your passies. I just have the plain old fashion one that takes over the world. May Pop I believe is the name of it.

Now I just wish I had a few cuttings from all the different colors. I think they would be stunning on some of the trellis up and down my gardening paths. LOL I can just invision how beautiful the paths would be with a different color passie about every 100ft. sounds yummy to me. Now I've got to see where I can come up with some different ones.

By all means please keep posting all ya'lls wonderful photos to help keep me focused on my passie dream. Anyone got any suggestions where us poor folk can get some starts for a very reasonable price???

Thanks in advance and Happy Gardening,
Marian

Mark, are yours in pots or in the ground. If pots, then what kind of medium do you use to plant with?

Also, can anyone give me an idea of how long it takes fruits to ripen for seed collection?

X,

Mine are in pots, filled with Miracle Gro and mulched with wood chips. Most passie fruits take 2 to 3 months to ripen. If you're letting them ripen for seed, you should let them fall from the vine rather than picking them, and I let them ripen further inside for at least a month before removing the seeds.

Ok...I give up. I've been looking at this post , thinking I really don't need "another vine" or passi, but really I must have this passi too!!!!!!..........anybody have any rooted cuttings ( or even well cut unrooted cuttings ?/) they'd like to share ? See my trade list !

I have bought from here in past years. I consider her plant list excellant. Remember that not all passiflora can live in heat and humidity. There are about 500 passies. Many are from cool mountainous regions. I leaned this the hard way, of course.
Enjoy!!
