Current plans are to have a coop at the rear of the property with a tractor in the vegie garden. Both will have room for the chickens to roam. Chickens in the rear coop also may be able to free range depending on how much they ruin things.
I'll get all the chicks at the same time and so at the beginning they'll be together. Question is: If I put 3-4 in the tractor, can I swap them out from time to time with chickens in the coop? So they all get to be in the tractor and it's adjacent run (all the way around the 40x60 garden) for a bit and they all get to be in the coop with its adjacent run part of the time. Will they 'remember' each other and get along with constant mixing?
Also, how far will chickens 'roam' from their coop? We have almost 3 acres, sort of a long rectangle. Will the chickens at the back of the property wander to the front if let out of their yard? Or will they mainly hang around the general area of their coop?
