I struggled to get this picture. He wouldn't sit still for a second! I was so happy with this photo. This is my favorite butterfly.
Zebra Swallowtail Photo
This is the reason I planted paw paw.It is said that the blooms are what attrack the zebra swallowtail.

Fabulous picture!! Your struggle was well worth it - we all appreciate your efforts!!
Hmmm...I raise these guys on a regular basis. I've never seen one nectar on the bloom. Down in FL, we have little shrub pawpaws, not the big tree kind. The plant blooms first and then leafs out so I don't tend to get cats until after the plant is done blooming. In the spring I see them nectar on sawtooth blackberry which grows in the same area as pawpaw. I see them nectar on lantana as well.
Here's one I released the other day; he liked crawling on my jeans for some reason.

Melanie,
I wonder why the ones there are so much darker. The ones here have more white. Interesting.
Is that an A. Tubrosia in the first Pic.?
I guess the milk weeds draw all kinds.
Mike
It's Asclepias Tuberosa. I planted them from seeds last year. I love that plant. I think they are beautiful!
Did you get your seed from a seed source, or from the plant? The seed I tried last year from the plant didn't make it.Mike
I planted both seeds from one of my plants and some from Thompson and Morgan. I soak mine overnight in water. They key is not to cover them up. These are some of the best plants to me.
Thanks I'll give that a try.Mike
I'm fairly new to growing from seed, but it sure is catching.
Beautiful picture echineceamaniac. I have plenty of butterflyweed, so maybe I'll get lucky.
So envious of your ZSTs, nice shot too.
