My little ones have 3 full sets of true leaves; they took a while to get going but have grown quickly this past week, and have apparently become a bit precocious. Yesterday I noticed them getting flowers! There right in the top center of the plant. Should I just pinch off the flowers or the set of leaves they're nestled in too? They're now in a 4" pot and still inside since we keep having nights in the 40's. I've never grown ground cherries before and everything says to grow them like tomatoes, but I don't remember tomatoes doing this before.
Flower buds on ground cherry seedlings
I tried 3 times to grow plants from the ground cherry seeds I bought from Baker Creek Seeds and I still have not been successful. Please tell me how you managed to get yours to grow. I have a grow light and I used those little jiffy greenhouse things with the discs made from peat moss. Everything else, with the exception of the tomato seeds from the Campbell's Soup Co., did great.
I used a kit from http://www.redlandsupply.com/index.html that came with plugs, tray, and dome. I just kept them moist under the dome and on a heat mat, then put them under the lights as soon as they sprouted. My seeds are the Aunt Molly's variety and came from Seed Savers Exchange. It did take them a while to germinate-I almost gave up on them.
I will have to look into that. I was really looking forward to them.
