How Many Plants Per 5-Gallon Grow Bag?

SE Houston (Hobby), TX(Zone 9a)

I've read through every thread and looked at Bocabob's pics around the pool trying to see the number of veggie plants per growbag. All I managed to see clearly was 2 bush bean plants in one bag. And a discussion of only one okra plant per bag.

Is there a planting grid for the Bocabags somewhere? I went on his website, but no such schedule to be found. I'm talking about something like the EB people have that shows how many plants per EB, only for Bob's bags.

A little help, please? Thanks!

A starting point for me as to how close to plant vegetables together has always been Mel Bartholomews first edition of "Square Foot Gardening." For me, starting from scratch as a gardener, all the graphs and charts in there were invaluable. Everything is there from when to plant, when to transplant, how close to plant, how long to maturity, when to harvest, etc etc.

In later years, when I switched to container gardening, I just kept using the system. I consider a 4 to 5 gallon container as having a square foot of growing surface and follow Mel's directions as to how close to plant. If Mel could plant X number of carrots in a square foot, I could plant the same amount in the top of a 5 gallon container. But then I learned that I could create a better grow mix and better growing conditions and fertilization in a container than I usually could in a square foot of raw dirt, and I began to push the envelope a little bit and plant stuff closer together. That is about where I am in my gardening right now..........pushing the envelope and crowding as many plants together as I think I can get away with.

Thanks Bob! That is a valuable guide and a big aid to all. I planted one Dahlia in each of my twelve bags and they are growing nicely. I will post them on the Dahlia thread when in bloom.

I'm so glad someone asked this question--I've just started planting my grow bags and have been wondering the same thing. Thanks for the guidelines, Bob.
