Houston Hostas

I've been told these won't grow well here....fungus? Or heat?

I may have been told this by more than one person so I wanted to check in and confirm.....

I have a fully shaded area and a sprinkler system (not sure this is helpful or not?) that's just the logistics of the area I was hoping to put them in.

I'm into my second year with several hostas that appear to be doing well. I did have to move one early in the spring because it'd been getting a little more sun than it wanted. Here are the cultivars that have worked for me so far: 'Holy Mole' (partial shade), 'Stained Glass' (full shade in late spring/summer, but with winter sun) and Hosta plantaginea (mainly shade). I tried Hosta 'Hush Puppie" but it failed to re-emerge this spring and is a goner.

The key is to find cultivars that tolerate heat/humidity. I did a lot of research before selecting the ones I tried which probably accounts for 3 out of 4 surviving. I purchased them from Plants Delight via mail order. As to whether they'll grow and prosper, only time will tell.

I have 'Guacamole'. This is the 3rd year it has returned and done well, so far. I will say that most of the ones that you will find in local garden centers are not among the varieties that are said to do particularly well here.

thank you both.
