Water Turtle - help/advise shell rot?

I have a water turtle whose back leg was injured and she lost it, now the shell is white and has algae growing in that area over where that foot is... the injury was over two years ago and she had been fine until this past week while I was on vacation. any advice or can anyone point me in the right direction to find out what to do? Thanks in advance!
