florist cyclamen

Greensboro, NC(Zone 8a)

Not the first plant that comes to mind, and this Isn't their time of year...they go on sale for Valentine's Day, but has anyone carried one through a year? I thought they liked to go dormant right about now but mine seems to want to keep on keeping on. Should I dry it up and force it into dormancy or let it decide for itself?
thanks!

I haven't grown this one, but in general I let my plants decide on their own what to do--if you've got it outdoors I suspect as your weather gets warmer it'll decide on its own that it's time to go dormant. If it's indoors then it may not figure things out on its own--in that case I'm not sure if they need a dormant period or not.

I bought what I suppose is florists cyclamen a couple of years ago for a little winter color around my patio. Much to my surprise they continue to flourish and have shown an amazingly long bloom period. Last year several of my cyclamen started blooming in earnest around September, and didn't stop until June this year! The picture I uploaded was taken this morning of one of them starting to bloom again already - in July! I have a patio cover that protects these areas from direct sun, I guess I would call the exposure bright shade. I have a number of other cyclamen around the patio; some of them receive a little more sun, and they look ratty now (but are not entirely dormant), but will perk up when the weather cools off this fall. Some of them have only a few leaves, but the ones in bright shade have a pretty full set of leaves, even in this heat, but only this one has started blooming. With a little protection from direct sun, these plants can thrive and be a nice addition to the shade garden.

shucks...i had decided a month or so ago to force them into dormancy and now, looking at yours, i wish I hadn't! I just watered it about 10 mins ago...hoping I didn't kill it. All I need to do is move to a warm place, right?
