Great pics Jon...

I am still trying to get a Black Voodoo. I love Wahini too.

Ft Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10a)

Thanks Jon. Black Voodoo and Wahine are fairly new to me. Black Voodoo looks good and is a very fast grower. Wahine is also growing very nicely and has been a very steady bloomer. The blooms are heavy textured and are even lasting two days in the summer heat. Wahine's blooms are also very thick even though that's not a word we usually use in hibiscus talk. Thick is the best word I can think of to describe them.

Thanks for the info Jon.

Would you put it on a must have list ?

Ft Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10a)

Tough call. Black Voodoo is a definite yes because its new, very very unique and grows well. The blooms actually look even better as the day progresses. Wahine is a "maybe", but really depends on what you have in your collection. If your trying to get your collection to represent all of the colors and mixes of colors and are a bit short on whites and/or peach colors I would say "add it to the list". It just depends on what each of us is striving for in our collection. Personally, I like to try to have each color represented in a couple of different color combinations.

Thanks Jon

Black Vodoo is on my must have list. I already have a few nice whites but need some more browns to add.

Paczona what lovelies are looking for this weekend? Have you gone to an HVH open house before? If so, how do you leave any plants behind? I am so tempted to plan a trip down to So Cal to coincide with their open house dates.

Los Angeles, CA(Zone 10b)

Hi,

I have enough in my collection that there are only a few or so I'm hoping to pick up. I went to the last open house and it was great to see all the blooms and seedlings charlie puts out. It is definitly worth the trip. I wish there was an AHS chapter in CA.

It is kind of strange that all of the chapters are located in just three states (FL, LA, TX). You would think there would be one in SoCal or even southern Louisiana or Mississippi. I went to my first monthly meeting of our local chapter last week and it was very interesting and fun. So many nice people and they taught us how to graft hibs.

Paczona,

I'll bet, the photos in the album online are amazing. Do you base your list on what is available on their website and hope for the best? Or do you have some inside track? I just signed up for their newsletter so I don't know if they publish what is available ahead of time.

amorecuore, you have a gorgeous collection, always love your photos. I have five to six brand new seedling of "Voodoo Magic" which I had cross pollinated, I hope I get something as beautiful as your "Black Voodoo". I really like all of the other ones to. That "Black Voodoo" is the forth one I know of, there "Funny Voodoo", "Voodoo Queen" and "Voodoo Magic", any more I don't know off, let me know.

You certainly have some winners in your yard Jon! Love that Black Voodoo an am thinking I need to find one to add to my Voodoo area in my garden. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks much Wilfred & Juliana. Voodoo Queen certainly has produced some nice offspring and those are the only 4 "Voodoo's" I am familiar with also. I have a feeling there will be many more coming. I entered "Black Voodoo" at a Hibiscus Show last week and it did quite well for me. It always helps to have something new with a very unique color combination when it comes to that issue. Robert said that the only quirk about "Black Voodoo" is that it must be grafted. It's one of the few varieties that will not grow on its own roots. Hopefully perhaps thats only a recessive genetic gene that may not necessarily carry over to many of its forthcoming offspring. Tahitian Taui has been one of the tougher ones to grow for me. It has been a very slow grower which generally means less frequent blooms. At least the blooms have all been pretty consistent in size and color throughout the year. That is a good thing.

Nice photos Jon. It's so good to see all the pretty hibbies that everyone is posting the last couple of days. It would be even better if some of mine were blooming at home so I could see em in person. LOL

SCHOOL IS OUT FOR SUMMER!!!!

It's nice to have a little quiet time without students to look at all the pictures being posted. Starting tomorrow, I'll be looking at pictures from home instead of work . . .Woo Hoo . . . I do love summer despite our South Texas heat.

Hi Jon,

You have posted some beauties!!! You know I have a Neon Nova and out of the 3 years I've had it I have only seen 11 blooms on it. I feed it the same. It's in a 5 gallon pot. Karen in California would have it by now but it's too big to ship. I'll give it another year and hope it comes around. I'll just keep enjoying yours!

Robert

Thanks Patty and Robert. Neon Nova has been a good steady bloomer for me Robert. If it's potted you might want to consider moving it to less sun and see if that helps. I only have 6 potted plants in the front in almost full day sun. I noticed they all started to slow down/stop blooming after 6-12 months. About 2 months ago I moved 3 of them to the back of the house inside the pool screening. Things are looking much more promising with all of them, and especially with "Magic Moments". Lots of new growth now and quite a few flower buds now beginning to form. It may not be the answer, but it might be worth a try. If my "Neon Nova" wasn't blooming much either then I would think its simply the cultivator.
