Marking pen question...

Charlotte, NC(Zone 7b)

Last year I carefully marked every pot and row planted. Within a few days the sun had completely erased what I had written! Can someone recommend a marking pen that will work on plastic plant markers? Also, please let me know where it was purchased, if possible.

Thanks for all and any suggestions.

Sharpie makes a good outdoor marker. I can only find them at home depot. Also, depending on what you are writing on, pencil wont come off. The eon markers that I have gotten thru co-ops work great too.

If you use plant stakes, blinds or markers, the best thing that will not fade and can be erased and reused is a #2 pencil IMO. ~ pod

Thank you - I never thought of using a good old #2 pencil.

Grease Paint pens. There are grease pens too I think.

Or a label maker from P-Touch. I figured those would fade right away, but they last the whole season for me. I put one at the top of each cage so I don't have to bend down to look.

They do hold well, I put them on the metal markers. I sometimes spray some clear sealer over...makes me feel better.

Plain old venetian blinds cut into manageable sections and a plain old #2 PENCIL.

Bookworm28 sent me some seedlings labeled this way. I put those labels outside in mid-March, and the only ones i can read crystal clearly today are the ones written with the PENCIL. Ink, marker, all bleached white or washed away...sometimes older IS better!

I might throw in and say go for a grease pencil, too.

i bought one of those inexpensive dymo label maker. its the kind where you have to rotate the middle until you get to the letter you want. it takes time but you can stick them on anything and it stays there. you can also remove them and restick to another container
