We came from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/973050/
I caught a glimpse of one baby in nest number 5. I am very excited to see the little phantom pooper is indeed a baby hummer, and hopefully there is another one in the nest as well. The shady location makes photographing challenging and most of my shots come out horribly blurry or washed out, but I will do my best to document the activity in this nest. Here is one pic of the baby:
I found another hummingbird nest part 4 - new babies!
those are pretty good shots i am looking foward to more
hopefully you can get 2 babes
That's amazing, sunnyg, to find 5 hummer nests! I've never found even ONE in these woods.
Since you're in California, I know they're not ruby-throats, but are they Allen's? Calliope? Anna's? Or are do the females of all the western hummers look too much alike to tell?
Sherry
Thanks so much...I will keep messing around with the settings on my camera/time of day to take pics etc., and see if I can get any better with these funky conditions.
Sherry, I think these have all been Anna's. The good folks on here helped me ID the female on the first nest as an Anna's, and these other females look pretty similar. In fact, I believe I watched this same female raise two little babies, after the eggs fell out of that first nest. (the nest "style" was similar, her red marking on her throat looked the same, and she had a habit of trying to poop on my head. LOL). Here is the thread where I got the ID: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/950657/
Sunny, that first picture where you can see baby's beak is GREAT! Not a problem for me to see! I will be following this thread when I get back in town ;) WTG, Sunny!
they are so sweet pretty soon both heads will be showing they are growing fast
what a shot, they are soo cute i had my pair buzz by my head yesterday rolling around in the air they are soo funny, i just love it when they are here, i just dont have much to feed them i tried the feeder with no luck. the plants i have should be blooming soon hope they can wait that long. how high up is the nest. are you climbing a tree to get these shots??
I just wanted to let everyone know that the babies have fledged. I've had a lot going on and wasn't able to watch or photograph them as I would have liked, but the last time I saw them they were pretty big. When I went out yesterday, they were gone. :-)
