Did I read somewhere that Gatorade because of its salts and minerals is good to add to the BF's puddling water? I brought some sandy soil home today from Gainesville and put it in my new copper bird bath/feeder/puddler. Notice the two brass swallowtails and copper dragon fly on it. I just had to have it!
I am wondering whether or not I should put some Gatorade in it, and if so how much?
Gatorade in Bf's puddling spot?
Lovely yard decoration!!! Not sure if the copper will affect the gatorade or vice-versa. I know they make copper pans to cook in but not sure if there are grades of copper or if all of them are okay for food/drink consumption.
I think it was LindaTx who uses gatorade. Said she's had good results with it and also uses it to feed newly emerged butterflies she is unable to immediately release.
Back at the ranch I use shavings from the mineral and salt blocks we put out for the deer. I put the shavings in a 32 ounce bottle of water and pour some of it over scat to re-hydrate it for the butterflies. I also toss shavings into puddles (when it rains) and near the edge of the pond where the water will dissolve them and allow the minerals to leech into the soil.
Do let us know how your feeder/bath/puddler works out and we hope to see some photos of butterflies using it.

Thanks, Puddy Print I really considered how copper would effect the water or other liquids like the butterfly brew. I am concerned it could present a problem of I start adding salt or other minerals. Hope others will read this and give an opinon.
