Birds of the Northern Cape, SA.

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

I decided to begin a new topic and add birds as I take them...

This afternoon, the Whitebacked Mousebirds, hanging around as usual, taking in the last of the sun.

This is a yellow canary (Serinus flaviventris). Hopefully I will get better pics in days to come, but it's been nearly 5 years since I last saw one...and it seems they visit late evening.

Thanks guys...

This is the Endemic Orange River White-eye (12cm). The orange tint on the side makes it different from the common Cape White-eye, also endemic, but this one is special. It only occurs in the dry west of the country.

This is the African Hoopoe...just to complete....I did post another pic earlier this week in one of the other forums.

And Resin, I will get a pic with that open crown....lol, if you remember we spoke about it months ago.

Orange River White-eye .... The orange tint on the side makes it different

Presumably it get the orange from the river?

;-)

Hahaha...in Afrikaans it's known as the Gariep White-eye, which I like more because the Orange river is much longer than it's natural distribution and Gariep gives a more correct distribution "name" if that makes sense.
