mittsy, what a beautiful water garden you have! I'm jealous...LOL. I cant put in a water garden here (am renting) always wanted one tho! yours is gorgeous!

It needs weeding badly, I try to work at it a little each day, I did spot 2 tiny, quarter size baby turtles. Of the five I had last year I only see 3 bigger ones, about three inches across. Lots of goldfish, too. Its very peaceful to just relax and watch.

I had thought about putting in a 'temporary' pond by using a galvanized tub, but not sure how pricey that would be. Anyhow, I didnt notice the weeds, looked beautiful!.

ok, Im thru with hijacking this thread...LOL, my apologies...

... Now back to your regularly scheduled trade negotiations in progress

I saw a picture in a magazine where someone had made a small water garden out of a half plastic barrel. It looked nice!

thanks so much mittsy do you want ant lotus seeds too

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

cue , my mom is burying a large rubbermaid tote and using that as a sort of pre formed liner . its for a lotus we were looking around the house for something to put a lotus seedling i have in . i was like ya know if you plunge this tub it will over winter . now shes all into the idea . getting solar lights lol and planing the display .

no filter needed just throw half the dirt back in and fill with water . plant the lotus maybe add some feeder gold fish and there you have it.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

wow, thast it? no filter? no moving water to deter skeeters? and it works??? *starts hunting around the house for rubbermaid storage bins that arent in use*

(dana)Owensboro, KY(Zone 6a)

nope its a bog . i still say pond lol
i guess the gold fish will eat the mosquitos . or theres mosquito dunks . im pretty sure they are plant safe . and as the water evaporated you just fill back .

i suppose you could put a bubbler in to keep the mosquitos out . youd have to ask about that on the water gardens forum . heres the thread that inspired me http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/813414/
