Hello everyone, not sure where to post this. Anyway, I have some physical limitations due to a neurological disorder similar to MS. I am having a rough time keeping in top of grass and overgrown weeds around my lasagna beds and straw bales. I cannot bend a whole lot. I am looking for a fairly light weight weed eater, preferably a stihl. We have 14 acres and my husband would like to use it as well.
Any other good brands or suggestions? There is no power source close to our garden, so gas would probably be best.
Thanks
Amy
Weedeater
Stihl, Echo, etc. are the higher end brands and would probably hold up better for heavy usage on 14 acres. A couple of their models are really light weight and well balanced when using the shoulder strap.
If possible you should go to a outdoor lawn/maintenance store so you can actually try out a couple models. Lowes/Home Depot do not have working models for you to try. Our local Mortons Power Equipment let us see and try some of the equipment before we purchased it. This is only an example site (http://www.mortonspower.com/) I'm sure you can find some place close to you.
Happy Gardening!
Not sure about Echo but i know Stihl has an easy start feature on their gas equipment that is worth its' weight in vegies! I don't have a weedeater but use Stihl chainsaw and love that easy start feature.
Yesterday at Home Depot I saw a weedeater type of apparatus mounted on wheels, similar to a lawn mower. Possibly it might be more suitable for your needs as you wouldn't have the burden of carrying the device around, with the weight etc. Probably not as versatile in tight spots, there is always a trade off, and probably more expensive too. I wish I had one since I now must leave my occasional weedeating to a helpful neighbor or paid help.
Last year for my birthday SO bought a Muryama trimmer. It was expensive. It starts on the first pull always, is lighter than any I've used and is very well balanced. I wouldn't trade it for any other brand. We got it from a commercial supplier. It is gas operated and has all kinds of attachments that one can buy. I use a trimmer line that has wire in the center and love that too.
