Brug Collection

DeRidder, LA(Zone 9a)

Most of my brug collection has been wiped out from the two hurricanes last yr., too much rain causing rot to my brugs left in ground over winter, and of all things we had snow in Louisiana!!! This was my prized collection and I was devasted that I lost so many beautiful brugmansia.

It was so upsetting, I didn't even bother coming to the brugmansia forum, and decided I wasn't going to replace my collection. I've spent major money on this collection, not to mention all the time put into caring for my brugs and housing for my extra special brugmansias.....lol, my greenhouses have been wiped out twice by hurricanes.

Then last week I noticed buds on a few of my brugs, and yesterday & today blooms!! Needless to say, when those blooms appeared I knew I could never give up growing these beauties.

Here's photo's of some VERY HARDY brugs....they survived floods, hurricanes, & even a couple inches of snow.

Dollie, I'm so sorry about your Brugs. The photos you've shared with us showed some gorgeous blooms. Please post a list of the cultivars you are looking for. I can't help with the imports either, but might have duplicates of some on your list.

Dunedin, FL

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

Lovely .. lovely .. lovely .. 'Lovely Lady' .. Dollie!!!!
(cannot say to many "lovley's" here) .. lol

Though the others are looking good too :-)

I had hurricanes, freeze in December, and my poly greenhouse about blown off the planet at 95 mph winds in January. Creates a little problem with wild chill too. ha
The early 1900s glasshouse greenhouse lost 5 glass panes in all of that .. and that was it :-))
They just don't make them like they used to .. as the saying goes.

Anyhow, if you need anything from me, too, to help in replacing your losses, call or mail me too .. and I will send what I can.

Please post more photos of 'Lovely Lady' as she opens?

Thanks :-)

You brug buddies are THE BEST!!! Thank you so much for your offers. It was mostly my imports that had me so heart-sick as they're not easy to replace, if at all, unless I call 911 Christa, or reorder from Monika. Right now I'm still in the process of rebuliding another GH which is costly in itself.

Alice, I'd love to have a 1900's glasshouse greenhouse! Seems like I've seen a picture of your glasshouse and if I remember correctly it was beautiful and I was green with envy ;) Alice, same goes for you, if I have any brugs that you want PLMK....I'll get cuttings started for you.

Caren, do you still have Kim's BBB brug? We both got a cutting from her last yr. at the Baton Rouge RR. I'd love to have a start of that one this fall when you cut back. If you have Sam, Puppy Love, Satin Rose, Pk. Beauty, Big, Adeline, Sacajawea....these are some I really hate not having in my collection. These were planted outside and I think the freak snow is what killed them. Caren, your welcome to any of my import cuttings that you need replaced. I'll email you the list of what I have in the morning.

Debbie & Betty, I bet Caren has all those same brugs I lost. We don't live far from each other....I'll go raid her gardens this fall for cuttings. Thank you both for your generous offer.

Christa, I'll make my 911 call in the morning :) On one condition....You let me pay for shipping this time. You've sent me so many beautiful brugs over the past few years, never once letting me pay shipping cost......and when I opened the package you had everything wrapped like it came from a florist. And Christa, your the one that has been a very special friend.....your a blessing to know.

Debbie, my sister Trish Ann has a Pink Beauty cutting she's giving me. Thank you for your kind offer. Once I get Adeline growing back in my garden I'll get a rooted cutting sent your way.

Alice, I'll get a cutting of Adeline from Caren this fall. Christa, I think , has Sacajawea. If not I'd love to get this one from you. Thanks! PLMK if I have any brugs you might want.

Caren & Christa, unexpected company came in for the weekend so haven't been able to get over to my GH which is located about 20 miles from where I live. I'll email you both this evening.

Jacksonville, FL
