What do I do with my hibiscus cross seeds

Ft Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10a)

I need some advice/help on what to do do do. I finally had a successful hybrid cross that produced a seed pod in about 7 or 8 weeks and the pod fell off the plant yesterday. I opened up the pod and took out 4 seeds. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I do with the seeds now and how long I should wait before I nick the seeds and plant them. Thanks for your advice.

That provides exactly the information I was looking for Kathy. I really appreciate you spending the time to look around for this information for me. The first seeds that I planted about 9-10 months are now about 10-12 inches high bud no buds yet. The process of cross pollinating my own varieties in an attempt to create a seed pod and seeds is/was new to me so it was a slightly different experience.

Make sure your seed medium is thoroughly wet before you start to plant your seeds since you can't water them every day or they will rot.

I place the seeds on the surface of the seed medium where they are to be planted.

These are little marker I use to mark where the seeds are, I use weed wacker cord ( lawn trimmer cord) that that I cut one and a half inch long, they never rot away like other thing you may use for this purpose.

I mark where each seed is place just to know where the seed are, this way I know if it a hibiscus seed that's growing or is it some other seed that the wind decided to put in your pot. Also good to see if all your seeds germinated.

The seeds have sort of a point to one side, I plant this point downward when I stick them in the growing medium.

Make a hole in the medium just big and deep enough so that the seed fits in it.

Place the seed point downward in the little hole you made for it.

Cover it lightly, just enough to cover them, this help them pop out faster.

Thanks for your help. I have planted seeds before that someone had mailed to me. I just wasn't sure what to do with fresh seeds that I had produced myself. I wasn't sure if I should plant them immediately, or if I should let them dry out completely and then store them for some time either in an airtight container or in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Jon that OK, My misunderstanding, well it might help someone else who has never done it before anyway. Jon, from my experience I've notice that the sooner I plant them the more probability I'll get them to germinate.

You could be right Wilfred, but I have a feeling I'll keep it under control because I don't have lots of space here. I've heard that cross pollinating works best here between October- April so I don't think I'm gonna try any more cross pollinating under the weather cools down in October. I learned how to graft Hibiscus last week and now have 12 root stock plants so I think I'm going to focus on grafting during the next few months and see how that goes.
