Hi! It's my first year planting Sugar Babies. I have raised beds with red mulch and floating row covers for early planting of warm season veggies.
But is it still too early for Sugar Baby watermelon with all the above in the Portland area?
Help please.I have 3 Sugar Babies sitting in my windowsill and they are growing fast!
Thanks!
Theresa
Too early for Sugar Babies?
I have had success up here planting them out with a plastic-covered tunnel to trap any heat & protect from the rain.
I use 6 mil vinyl over a tunnel made from 1/2" metal mesh (aka hardware cloth). I think the 2"x4" metal fencing works well, too. I leave it in place as long as possible.
I put all the melons into the ground and they seem to be doing fine.
Thank you!
