As luck would have it, my 5 little bluebirds must have all fledged yesterday as the nest was vacant this morning. I did not see either of the adult birds from about midday yesterday but I also saw them feeding their nestlings in the morning. I never did see any of the young ones leave the nest. I went to a high school track meet yesterday afternoon and that must have been the time that they left. I will clean out the nest box and get it ready for hopefully another sitting. I miss them already.
Bluebird fledge
Blue, Sorry you missed them fledge but Congratulations on their success.
We look forward to hearing about the next brood!
What a shame you missed this wonderful time.
Dave, your photos are amazing.
Another great story and wonderful pics of course!!
I just bought a blue bird house and I would like for someone to tell me where I should put it. I have lots of trees. Shade and sun. How high and what direction? Thanks for your help. Elaine
Hi Kamikid, 5- 6 feet high.
Face the nest hole away from prevailing winds.
Be sure to have it on a baffled pole so squirrels, raccoons, snakes etc. cannot hurt them.
Try to find an open area where squirrels cannot jump on top of house from tree's or buildings.
Do you feed mealworms? They love them!
Here is a site that has tons of info on Bluebirds.

If you have anymore questions we have some folks here that have been hosting Bluebirds for a while. Don't be a stranger!
Good Luck! Pelle :-)
I know how you feel, bbnb! The same thing happened to me this year but I see my little flock flying around so I know they made it OK. I also saw them beginning to build another nest in the same box over the weekend so hopefully I'll get another chance soon.
Kamikid, I put 4 boxes out and they only built in 1 but the others may not be in good spots or I may have too many in too small an area. I'm probably gonna take the others down and relocate them and see what happens.
Good luck!
Dave... fantastic pictures! Great camera there (and photographer of course!).
Kamikid...please do not mount that on a tree...do use a baffled pole as pelle said.
I will put it on a pole and the trees were mentioned because I have a shady back yard and didn't know if it needed to be in the sun or if it made a difference. I will get a pole today and get it up. Thanks Elaine
Hi Kamikid, Here are easy instructions for the baffled pole. We made the metal one 2 years in a row.

Thanks I will get the stuff for stovepipe baffle.
Good luck kami. It's a lot of fun watching them.
