I live in town..not sure if I am allowed (legally) to have a few hens...I am going to find out. There is some
one in my neighborhood that has a rooster...I can hear him. Not sure where he is.
I have neighbors who complain about everything! So the chickens would have to be one of the quieter breeds. Help me decide which ones.
When I was a kid a man who lived near my school, had chickens...I fell in love with one of them..she was so pretty! I am pretty sure it was a Dominique.

If you want standard sized--Australorps are very quiet--Buff Orpingtons are very noisy:0)
Hello!!! >Waves madly at melvatoo!
Hello Jenks! (too lady-like to wave madly) hah!
Hi Melvatoo: I have one of those cuties, honestly, shes alright, not my favorite. They are basically ornamental birds. Catscan mentioned Australorps, She is right they are very quiet and teriffic egg layers. There is an australorp on record that laid 364 eggs in a 365 day period. Don't ask for proof, because I have it and don't want to make anyone feel bad for not believing me. Not all but most city's allow a few hen's but no roo's. Good luck on your search. Haystack
Thanks Haystack....
I kept 8 hens in my backyard in the city with no problems. I had barredrocks, americanas and Rhode Island Reds. No problems. One of the Barred Rocks was really vocal and liked to talk to me a lot, but not so noisy neighbors would complain.
Hope that helped.
