Ok, I am really into photography and the other day I was outside taking pictures when I spotted this moth. I must say this moth really looks similar to the endangered Blackburn Sphinx moth. I would really appreciate some feedback about this moth and it's true identity. The one thing I found strange about this being a Blackburn Sphinx is that I found this moth in Alabama.
Also this was a rather large moth.
Is this a Blackburn Sphinx?
This is much more likely to be Manduca sexta, commonly known as the tobacco hornworm, - see http://tinyurl.com/oo9tcm for an image.
Yeah I was thinking the same too, just its detailed markings seem to be more similar to the Blackburn. But to be honest they look very similar.
