Has anyone been to the butterfly exhibit at the EdVenture children's museum in Columbia? It just started this month and runs til mid-October. It showcases southeastern butterflies and sounds neat, with a walk-thru room with butterflies flying around, and another where you can view the chrysalides in all stages. My concern is that people are let in at half hour intervals; to only have a half hour with them is torture!!!! Husband is balking at the price of $12. per person (it's really only $3., but you have to buy a museum pass too, you can't just buy a ticket to see the bf's). I'm wondering if it's worth it, especially if you end up going in with a group of school kids (part of the beauty of butterflies is the serenity they bring)?
Blooming Butterflies exhibit at EdVenture, Columbia SC
thea - I've never been! you may wish to dmail pyromomma as she lives in the cola area.....and could perhaps relay more? It sounds very cool though....
We're going to Columbia tomorrow to start house hunting. I have museum on my do-so list with DS while DH is at work. Will let you know about the exhibit.

Leslie...
If you have time, go to Riverbanks Zoo. You son will love it!
and while you are at the zoo don't forget to take the tram across the river to the Botanical Gardens.
I'd better add a couple of days to the trip. LOL
Have a safe drive Leslie! I think you will really like the cola/irmo area...best of luck to you house hunting!
Hi all,
DS and I went to the butterfly exhibit and it was neat. 1/2 hour was enough. We ID'd 6-8 of the ones they said might be there. It changes from time to time as some die and are replaced with others. We have a nursery here with a b-fly "experience" that has spoiled me. It's a lot bigger, has several water features and soft music in the background. The Cola one is worth doing if you're going to the museum anyway but I don't think I'd pay just to do it.
We have also been to the state museum, zoo and botanical garden. That, of course was my fav of all. Wow! Talk about worth the trip. DS got upset about me "wasting so much time" there when he wanted to get back to the aquarium, but we worked it out. Their garden feature hunt was a treat. I have lots of ideas for the new house.j
Yes, we found one and I'm so excited about it. Hope to have a meet & greet when we get settled.
Thanks for your report Lambchop! It's pretty expensive to go just for the butterfly exhibit, so I'm glad to know that it's really not worth it unless you're going to the kids' museum as well. When I lived in northwest CT, we used to go to a wonderful butterfly place in Deerfield, MA. I'd still like to get to the one at Callaway Gardens in GA, and also to Cypress Gardens in Monck's Corner, SC, maybe an hour's drive from here (getting DH excited about butterflies is not easy; he looks at photos of Cypress Gardens and thinks MOSQUITOES and that's it for that trip).
I love the zoo too, but haven't done the gardens yet; that's next on our list!! Congrats on your new house!
My DH only went to the Callaway gardens butterfly house with me because he owed me a huge favor. We were not in there 5 minutes and he was going Oooo and Ahhh as the flutterbys landed on his arms and hands. Those little insects turned him into a big wuss. :-)
But check out that shirt he is wearing; another south carolinian in the making. Does the poor kid know he HAS to choose between USC and Clemson now? :-)
